COSMETOLOGY COURSE (1250Hrs) |

Course Description Cosmetology students will learn the skills necessary to become professional hairstylists. There are courses specifically designed to qualify the student to pass the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology Examiners Test. Licensed graduates can progress to a career in management or teaching. The 1,250 hours of instruction are divided into theory, demonstration, and practical experience in men and women’s hair. Theory includes anatomy, science, barber law professional ethics and shop management. Textbooks, workbooks, charts and audio-visual aids, aid classroom instruction. Demonstrations and student practice include such skills as hairs cutting, styling, shaving, shampooing, and tinting and permanent waving. Student progress is measured by successful completion of tasks and examinations.

Evaluation Procedures: 1. Testing in theory, practical and clinical areas 2. Examinations after each unit of the course 3. Monthly practical/clinical workshop 4. Final examination
Course Goals: 1. Students will receive an education in both theory and practical experience and gain knowledge in all phases of cosmetology. 2. To prepare students to successfully pass the State Board Examinations. 3. To prepare students to work in a professional hairstyling salon as a licensed cosmetologist. 4. To perform as a professional cosmetologist. 5. To develop employer/employee relationships and effective communication skills.
Achievement Level Requirement: All students are required to maintain at least a 75% grade point average in theory and at least a 2 in practical and clinical subjects in order to be eligible to receive a diploma. |
